The Mahesh starrer has surpassed the record set by Pawan Kalyan's "Attarintiki Daaredi", which had earned over $345,000 (only rentrak) from Thursday premiere shows.
Mahesh's films have a good track record in the US. His past releases, including "Dookudu", "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu" and "1 Nenokkadine" have entered the $1 million club in the US box office. "Aagadu" is expected to follow suit and enter the elite club soon.
AP/Nizam Box Office
The film, which hit the screens on 19 September, has opened to a fantastic response in India. The Mahesh Babu starrer took huge openings in the AP/Nizam box office and has reportedly minted over ₹9.7 crore share on the opening day, according to Andhraboxoffice.
"Aagadu" has surpassed the day one collections of Jr NTR's "Baadshah", which had fetched ₹9.25 crore share. However, the film has failed to beat the first day collections of "Attarintiki Daaredi" at the AP/Nizam box office.
"Aagadu" has replaced "Baadshah" and has taken the second spot in the list of top 10 all time opening day AP/Nizam shares, which also has biggies like "Gabbar Singh", "Rabhasa" and "Yevadu," 1 Nenokkadine" and "Naayak" among others.
Directed by Srinu Vaitla, "Aagadu" has Mahesh appearing in the role of an encounter specialist. Tammannah, Nassar, Brahmanandam and Sonu Sood are also part of the film's cast.
Although critics termed "Aagadu" as a typical commercial entertainer (trademark Srinu Vaitla film), they have appreciated Mahesh's performance and stated that the actor has carried the film on his shoulders.
After the overwhelming start on the first day, "Aagadu" is expected to continue its good run on Saturday (20 September) and Sunday (21 September) at the box office. It needs to be seen whether the film will be able to sustain its momentum and rake in good collections.
If the Mahesh starrer manages to hold its business on Saturday and Sunday, it is likely to end the opening weekend on a grand note. With no big competition around, "Aagadu" is likely to dominate the screens in the coming days.
