Divya Khosla's debut film "Yaariyan" has fared remarkably better than the critically acclaimed "Dedh Ishqiya".
Despite being slammed by critics, romance adventure "Yaariyan" has enjoyed a winning run at the box office from its opening day. Now, at the end of its first weekend, the film's collections stand at 19 crore, as per trade analyst Joginder Tuteja. With the film's production cost also being the same, "Yaariyan" has already become a hit.
"Yaariyan" earned an impressive 5.75 crore on its opening day (Friday), which fell marginally to 5 crore on Saturday. However, the film bounced back on Sunday earning around 8 crore.
Meanwhile, Madhuri Dixit starrer "Dedh Ishqiya" failed to catch up with "Yaariyaan" earnings though it did see a stable growth in its business over the weekend.
"#DedhIshqiya witnessed escalation over the weekend. Biz grew with each passing day," pointed out industry analyst Taran Adrash.
According to Tuteja, the sequel to "Ishqiya" collected 12 crore from its first weekend. The film had a sloppy start as it fetched only 2.76 crore on Friday, 4 crore on Saturday and around 5 crore on Sunday, making up the weekend total to 12 crore. However, the film is yet to recover its production cost (15 crore).
The first week will prove crucial for "Dedh Ishiqya" as it remains to be seen whether the critically acclaimed film manages to hold good commercially. While for 'Yaariyan' it is assumed the film will continue to hold good, given its youth content.
