Pongal releases "Veeram" and "Jilla" are continuing their good run not just in India, but also in overseas markets.
Earlier, we had reported the 10-day collections (gross) of "Veeram" and "Jilla" for key international markets including Malaysia and Australia. To check the collections report, click HERE. Details about the 10-day UK collections of the Ajith and Vijay starrers have now emerged.
According to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "Veeram" has minted £106,584 (₹1.08 crore) between 10-19 January, whereas "Jilla" has fetched £227,876 (₹ 2.31 crore) during the same period at the UK box office.
"Tamil films in UK [total till Sunday]: #Jilla £ 227,876 [₹ 2.31 cr]... #Veeram £ 106,584 [₹ 1.08 cr]," Taran tweeted.
Both the action-packed entertainers have been doing well at the box office. They have been declared as big hits in Ajith's and Vijay's careers. "Veeram" and "Jilla" are likely to end the second week on a good note. It remains to be seen as to how the films fare from this Friday onwards when three Tamil films are lined up for release during the Republic Day weekend (24-26 January).
"Goli Soda", "Ner Ethir" and "Malini 22 Palayamkottai" are hitting the screens during the Republic Day weekend. Although these films do not boast of a big star cast, they are backed by big production houses. All the films are carrying positive pre-release buzz and it remains to be seen how they fare at a time when "Jilla" and "Veeram" are doing fantastic business at the box office.
Besides the Tamil films, Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" is set to hit the screens in Tamil Nadu on 24 January. "Jai Ho" is expected to do well in the state as it stars Salman Khan in the lead role. One needs to wait a little longer to find out if the spate of new releases will affect the business of "Veeram" and "Jilla" or if it will be the other way round.
