The recently released bilingual movies (Tamil and Telugu) - "Udhayam NH4" and "Gouravam" - are not performing well at the overseas box office.
The tamil version of "Gouravam" which was released on 12 screens in the United Kingdom collected ₹4.14 lakh (£ 5,037) in its opening weekend, while "Udhayam NH4" which was released on just four screens earned a total of ₹3.05 lakh (£ 3,714) in the debut weekend.
The Telugu version of "Udhayam NH4" was not faring well at the US box office. The movie just fetched ₹9.43 lakh on 15 screens ($ 17,393).
"#Udhayam NH4 *opening weekend* UK £ 3,714 ₹3.05 lacs] ... USA $ 17,393 [₹9.43 lacs]," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#Gouravam *opening weekend* UK £ 5,037 [₹4.14 lacs]," he said.
Despite receiving appreciation from film critics, both "Gouravam" and "Udhayam NH4" have not done good business overseas.
Compared to these two movies, Nithin starrer "Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde" performed extremely well at the US box office. The romantic entertainer earned a total of ₹80.03 lakh on 23 screens in the opening weekend. The movie has received good reviews from film critics and moviegoers. In particular, the chemistry of the lead pair - Nithin and Nithya Menon - was well appreciated.
"Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde" even fared well compared to Bollywood movie "Ek Thi Daayan" which was released across double the number of screens in the US. "Ek Thi Daayan" collected just ₹35.71 lakh ($ 65,857) from 48 screens.
It has to be seen if the Nithin starrer would be able to sustain its dream run at the box office or drop in the coming weeks, as "Victory" Ventakesh's "Shadow" is all set to release this Friday (26 April) worldwide. The movie, which has Venkatesh reportedly playing a mafia don, is already generating a lot of hype.
The film stars Taapsee in the female lead. Meher Ramesh is the director of the flick, which also has Srikanth and Madhurima playing crucial roles.
