Bollywood film "Sholay 3D" has performed better than Arshad Warsi's "Mr Joe B Carvalho" in its opening weekend at the box office.
The 3D version of cult classic film "Sholay", starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Amjad Khan, released on 3 January along with comedy entertainer "Mr Joe B Carvalho." Both the films opened to a poor response at the box office, but "Sholay 3D" has done better business than the Arshad Warsi starrer.
The classic film earned ₹6.30 crore nett at the Indian box office, whereas "Joe B Carvalho" has raked in just ₹2 crore nett in its opening weekend.
With 2013 ending on a good note thanks to "Dhoom 3" performance, expectations were high from new releases this year. However, both the films failed to perform well at the box office.
Out of the two films, "Sholay 3D" has managed to beat "Mr Joe B Carvalho" at the box office. The yesteryear film's collections witnessed a steady increase during the first weekend. "#Sholay3D Fri 1.50 cr, Sat 2.25 cr, Sun 2.55 cr. Total: ₹ 6.30 cr nett. India biz only," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
On the other hand, "Mr Joe B Carvalho" collections dropped on the second day and witnessed a slight increase on the third day. The film's collections did not cross ₹1 crore even for a day in its opening weekend.
The comedy entertainer earned ₹65 lakh on the first day of its release, ₹60 lakh on Saturday and ₹75 lakh on Sunday. The film's total collections stand at ₹2 crore (nett) in India.
The fantastic performance of "Dhoom 3" also seems to have affected the new releases. It remains to be seen how the films perform during the week days.
