Vijay's "Jilla" and Ajith's "Veeram" are doing good business at the US box office. But their collections are lesser than "Thalaivaa" and "Arrambam" which released last year.
ATMUS Entertainment, the distributors of both "Jilla" and "Veeram" in the US, has revealed the 12-day gross collections of the superstar films at the US box office. According to the distributors, "Jilla" has grossed $228,055 (₹1.41 crore) as of 21 January, whereas "Veeram" minted $240,381 (₹1.48 crore) during the same period.
"Veeram" is racing ahead of "Jilla" in the US, which is evident from their collections. But, both the films have earned lesser than 2013 releases "Arrambam" and "Thalaivaa, respectively.
According to ATMUS Entertainment, "Jilla" collections are $30,000 lesser than "Thalaivaa." Similarly, "Veeram" collections are $140,000 lesser than "Arrambam", which was one of the biggest hits of 2013. They also reported that "Veeram" and "Jilla" would have done better business and earned over $300,000 each, if they were released separately.
"USA market can handle only 1 biggie at a time. #Jilla $30K less than #Thalaiva and #Veeram $140K less than #Arrambam just bcos rlsd together," ATMUS tweeted.
"Both #Jilla and #Veeram would have collected over $300K each if released separately," they stated.
The Vijay and Ajith starrers are expected to be screened in a few locations in their third week.
The action-packed entertainers are faring well in other overseas markets including UK, Australia and Malaysia.
In India, both the films have emerged as big winners at the box office. They are expected to end the second week on a good note and continue their successful theatrical run in the third week. However, it remains to be seen as to how the films perform in the coming days as new films are gearing up for release during the Republic Day weekend (24-26 January).
Tamil films "Goli Soda", "Ner Edhir" and "Malini 22 Palayamkottai" as well as Hindi film "Jai Ho" are hitting the screens during this weekend. This could mean that the screen count for Vijay and Ajith starrers might decline, which in turn might affect the film's collections.
