Adult comedy "Grand Masti", which became the highest grossing A-rated film ever, has finished its second week on a high note. Indra Kumar's directorial film has emerged as a clear-shot winner in at the Indian box office, after earning ₹88.40 crore in just 14 days.
In its opening week, the film had collected ₹67.40 crore and in second week it managed to rake in ₹21 crore from the domestic box office.
"#GrandMasti collected ₹20.50 cr to ₹21 cr nett in Week 2. Grand total: 87.90 cr to 88.40 nett. Super Hit," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted. "[Week 2] Fri ₹ 3.40 cr, Sat ₹ 4.15 cr, Sun ₹ 5.10 cr, Mon ₹ 2.15 cr, Tue ₹ 1.85 cr, Wed ₹ 1.60 cr."
The film, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani, has beaten the lifetime collection records of Vidya Balan starrer "The Dirty Picture". [Read the full report here]
The film has surprised everyone with its grand success except director Indra Kumar, who was confident that the film would fare well at the box office.
"At the writing stage itself Induji was confident that the film would do ₹100 crore. Then after he saw the First Cut, he started believing that it would do ₹150 crores. We had to curb his enthusiasm and say that 'Sir, even if we do ₹65 - ₹70 crores, we should all be happy since we would have made huge strides even with that," Milap Zaveri, the writer of the film, told Glamsham news.
Meanwhile, romantic comedy "Shuddh Desi Romance" is still running in theatres despite the release of three big films - "Grand Masti", "Phata Poster Nikla Hero" and "The Lunchbox".
The film, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor, has fetched in ₹1.08 crore in its third week, taking the overall toll to ₹46.31 crore.
