Bournemouth took advantage of shaky Liverpool's defence and scored four goals in the second half to earn an entertaining 4-3 win on Sunday. Liverpool did miss the services of regular centre-back Joel Matip, who was out with an ankle injury. Ryan Fraser, the second half substitute, was the major architect for Bournemouth's comeback after they were 0-2 down in the first half.
Liverpool will be utterly disappointed with this result as they had the game in the bag, and looked comfortable for a win. The first half was all Liverpool, who were in top form, while Bournemouth took their game to the next level in the next 45 minutes and played some good football to stun Liverpool and take three points from the match.
The Reds, right from the first whistle, dominated Bournemouth and threatened to break the deadlock early on. However, Jurgen Klopp and his men only managed to take lead in the 20th minute as Sadio Mane outran and overpowered defender Nathan Ake to score the opening goal.
Liverpool immediately doubled their lead three minutes later as inform striker Divock Origi, who had missed an easy chance earlier, made up for that with a quality goal from a difficult angle. Despite the goal, Bournemouth was trying to take their chances, and their players also put some pressure on the Liverpool defence more than once in the first 45 minutes.
However, it was Liverpool who enjoyed a good first half and went into the tunnel with a two-goal cushion.
The home team were in a desperate mood to start the second half on a bright note, and they got the much-needed lift in the 56th minute as Callum Wilson converted a penalty, which resulted from James Milner's foul inside the box.
After the introduction of Ryan Fraser, who earned the penalty, Bournemouth got a new lease of life as the substitute was taking the game to Liverpool with his electric pace. The visitors were not troubled much with that goal as Emre Can scored a wonderful goal in the 64th minute to help Liverpool regain their two-goal cushion.
But, Bournemouth were not giving up too easily. They were aware of Liverpool's poor defence and tested them a few times. With around 15 minutes to go, an error at the offensive end from Liverpool led to a counter and Fraser took advantage, slotting the ball home in the 76th minute, which gave them further legs to score their second goal in the next three minutes as Steve Cook scored to make the game interesting at 3-3.
The momentum was with Bournemouth, who nearly scored their fourth, but a brilliant save from Karius denied the home team the lead. However, it was a 93rd-minute error from the goalkeeper, who could not collect Cook's strike and Nathan Ake scored on the rebound, which led to some huge celebrations as it proved to be a winner.
That was some outrageous comeback from Bournemouth, but Liverpool's poor defence and Karius also played an important role in the result going the home team's way.
