Bollywood stars have always mesmerised audiences with their charm but have at times been found wanting when it came to social work and charity.
Though, the celebrities do not like to boast about their deeds, their fans appreciate the effort and idiolise their role models. There are a few stars from the film fraternity who have made a difference by adopting kids and raising them like their own.
Here are the ones who have contributed to the noble cause.
Sushmita Sen – Renee and Alisah
Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen led the way when she decided to be a single mother at the age of 25. Being too young at that time, Sen was not given the permission to take the guardianship of her first adopted child Renee in 2000. However, later the High Court granted the appeal and the result went in her favour. Then in 2010, the diva adopted a baby girl and named her Alisah.
Salman Khan's sister – Arpita
Salman Khan's father and Bollywood screenwriter, Salim Khan, adopted Arpita at a very young age. She has been the little pampered girl of the Khan Family who was recently tied the knot with a lot of pomp and ceremony.
Preity Zinta – 34 orphans
Preity Zinta, who herself was said to be adopted by filmmaker Kamal Amrohi's son Shandar, adopted all of 34 orphans from Mother Miracle School, Rishikesh, in 2009. Zinta visits them whenever she gets the time and pays for their upbringing and education.
Raveena Tandon – Chhaya and Pooja
In 1995, Bollywood diva Raveena Tandon adopted two girls, Chhaya and Pooja, and raised them alone. Keeping away from public attention always, Raveena brought them up quite well, marrying off one; the second one works in an event company.
In 2004, Raveena married film distributor Anil Thadani and gave birth to two kids – Rasha and Ranbir.
Rahul Bose – Six children
An ace actor and activist, Rahul Bose adopted six children from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He even raised money for their upbringing and education in Rishi Valley (Andhra Pradesh).
Subash Ghai - Meghna
Director Subash Ghai adopted Meghna, who is the biological daughter of Ghai's younger brother. Though the filmmaker never spoke about his daughter's adoption in public, Meghna once acknowledged the fact during an interview.
