German carmaker BMW announced the launch of the petrol variants of its SUVs-- BMW X3 and BMW X5 –in India. The gasoline engine versions of X3 and X5 have been priced at Rs 54.90 lakh and Rs 73.50 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
Produced at the company's plant in Chennai, the BMW X3 and X5 are now available in both diesel and petrol engine versions in the country. While the power in the BMW X3 xDrive28i comes from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder enfine, which is tuned to churn out 242bhp and 350Nm of torque, the X5 xDrive35i gets a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that generates 302bhp and 400Nm. The transmission in both the SUVs is taken care of by 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The X3 and X5 can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 6.5 seconds.

The X3 and X5 will take on the likes of Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Jaguar F-Pace in India.
