BMW i8, the hybrid model, which made its first appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo, 2014, has earned accolades from the auto aficionados. While there still are many uncovered details about the BMW i8, but luckily for the Indian auto lovers, the wait isn't going to be too long.
Recent reports have suggested that the sports car will be launched in the country in February. Ahead of its launch, the pictures of BMW i8 at a dealership have showed up. Thanks to the folks at Bharath Autos for the latest snaps.
Seen in the latest spy shots is BMW i8 donned in Sophisto Grey body paint with right-hand drive. Auto enthusiasts may recall, at Auto Expo BMW showcased the left-hand drive version of i8.
For the uninitiated, BMW i8 is a hybrid car powered by a 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre, twin turbocharging petrol engine, in combination with an electric motor. The petrol engine generates a power of 231bhp, a peak torque of 320Nm and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox transmission.
The electric motor of the i8 is tuned to generate 131 PS power and 250 Nm torque, taking the total output to 362PS and 570Nm. The car is capable of attaining 0 to 100kmph speed in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph; along with a fuel efficiency of 40kmpl.The car weighs just 1,490 kg despite the presence of a large battery pack.
Expected to get a price tag around of ₹2 crore, BMW i8 will be brought to India as completely built up unit (CBU) and is likely to be sold in limited numbers.
