i8 plug-in hybrid sports car is certainly one of the most spectacular creations of the German luxury carmaker, BMW. The car, a stylish and high-performance package, is seen in a striking lime green colour for the first time; and one may say, it looks stunning.
We have seen i8 in Silver and Blue, but definitely not in lime green. The lime green BMW i8 was on display at the company's Abu Dhabi dealership. Although it looks like a paintjob, a closer look at the picture will reveal that the lime green is carefully wrapped. This is the reason why the front parking sensor of the model is not seen visible in the picture. It is still there, but the wrap seems to have covered it. Nevertheless, that was a commendable job done by the Bavarians.
BMW i8, the hybrid model, gets power from a 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre, twin turbocharging petrol engine, in combination with an electric motor. The petrol engine generates a power of 231bhp, a peak torque of 320Nm and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox transmission.
The electric motor of the i8 is tuned to generate 131PS power and 250Nm torque, taking the total output to 362PS and 570Nm. The car is capable of attaining 0 to 100kmph speed in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph; along with a fuel efficiency of 40kmpl. The car weighs just 1,490 kg despite the presence of a large battery pack.
The model is scheduled to make its India debut on 18 February.
