Canadian smartphone maker Blackberry has launched another device in India. Dubbed as Leap, the latest smartphone will belong to its full touch Z3 portfolio. According to Economic Times, the smartphone is expected to be priced around ₹20,000 and focus on the mid budget customers.
Following its global launch at MWC, Barcelona, this year, Leap smartphone had been made available in the UK, US, France, and Germany last month. According to Blackberry, Leap has been rolled out focusing the young professionals in India.
The full touchscreen smartphone boasts a 5-inch display with 720x1280 pixels resolution at 294ppi pixel density count. The integrated System on Chip Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Plus equips a Dual Core Krait CPU clocked at 1.5GHz and an Adreno 305 GPU. The SoC has been aptly backed by 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM with expandability support up to 128GB using Micro SD card.
On the camera side, Leap features a 8MP rear camera combined with a 2MP front camera. The Leap measures at 144x72.8x9.5mm and weighs 170g. The smartphone runs on the latest Blackberry OS 10.3.1 and features a 2800 mAh battery.
Talking on the occasion, Mr. Sunil Lalwani, MD, BlackBerry India said, "The device will be an entry phone for these professionals who can then further subscribe to BlackBerry's other services.It's not a low-cost device and is positioned in the mid-tier segment. We expect a good uptake of this device in the Indian market."
At the price, Blackberry Leap will compete with the ASUS Zenfone 2, OnePlus One, Xiaomi Mi 4 and Huawei Honor 6 smartphones. Though all these mentioned device runs on Android, they features similar or superior feature at the same price bracket.
