The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is apparently getting ready for the next big elections as it has started short-listing the names for the next President of India. President Pranab Mukherjee's tenure will end in July.
A section of Tamil media has reported that the top BJP leaders have proposed Rajinikanth's name for the post of next President of India. Considering the Tamil superstar's PAN image and his appeal across the nation, his name has been suggested by a few leaders.
OneIndia Tamil further adds that by roping in Rajinikanth, the BJP will try to gain some foothold in Tamil Nadu, which is going through political uncertainty following the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Apart from the actor, the names of BJP's patriarch LK Advance and Amitabh Bachchan have also been proposed.
Earlier, the BJP had reportedly tried its best woo Rajinikanth by making him the face of the party in Tamil Nadu. But the superstar, who was willing to enter politics in 90s, has kept himself away from politics.
Rajinikanth is presently working in Shankar's 2.0 and he is set to begin his other project to be directed by Pa Ranjith in May. These films will keep him busy for a year.
