Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ram Kadam fell prey to fake news after he tweeted about actress Sonali Bendre being dead. The 42-year-old actress is currently undergoing treatment in New York.
The death hoax had been doing the rounds on social media for quite a while now but Kadam didn't bother to cross check if it was a rumour or not.
"Hindi and Marathi cinema actress Sonali Bendre, who once ruled millions of hearts with her scintillating performances, has passed away in the US. May her soul rest in peace," [loosely translated from Marathi] Ram Kadam shared this message on Twitter.
His tweet didn't go down well with her fans who brutally slammed Kadam for his carelessness and unnecessarily spreading fake news about a living personality on a public platform.
After getting slammed left, right and centre, Kadam immediately deleted his tweet and clarified in another tweet that Sonali Bendre's death news was just a rumour.
"About Sonali Bendre ji It was rumour . Since last two days .. I pray to God for her good health & speedy recovery," Kadam clarified.
However, Twitter users were not ready to spare him so easily. They started lashing out at Kadam saying that he had committed a crime by spreading such fake news about a living person.
