The disciplinary committee of Jammu and Kashmir has recommended a proposal to the president regarding a suspension of BJP MLA, Gagan Bhagat, in connection with the allegations of abducting a daughter of an ex-serviceman.
"The committee proposes to the president of J&K BJP that Gagan Bhagat be immediately suspended for a period of three months from the party," Chairman of disciplinary committee Sunil Sethi told Press Trust of India.
The R S Pura MLA Gagan was accused of abducting a daughter of an ex-serviceman on June 24. However, a charge denied later by both the woman and the accused. Afterwards, the politician claimed the allegations were just an attempt to defame him.
Key points of the proposal
The three-member committee, including N D Rajwal, Sunil Sethi and Virinderjeet Singh has stated that during a gap taken for the approval suspension letter, Gagan will be allowed to resolve all dispute to the satisfaction of the complainant parties. But if he fails in his attempts then he will be expelled from the BJP.
The committee has also mentioned in the proposal to restrain Gagan from holding any official position in the party for at least one year. All documents and files related to the case have been sent out to the president.
"If Gagan Bhagat fails to resolve all disputes to the satisfaction of complainant parties within a period granted to him, he be expelled from the party to not only do justice but also send a message to all members of the party that indiscipline in the party will not be tolerated and the members of the party have to keep their image clean in the public," PTI quoted Sethi as saying.
If the state president decides to inflict punishment then MLA Bhagat will be informed about his right to appeal, according to the committee.
