Birmingham plans to construct more than 1 million sq ft of office space in a bid to rival London for business.
The UKs second largest city, which is home to nearly 1.1 million people, wants to turn itself into a global financial services hub by 2030.
Part of the plan for the Midlands city includes a new skyscraper at 103 Colmore Row by Sterling Property Ventures and Rockspring. Costing £60m, the 364ft structure is the tallest office building in planning outside of London.
Birmingham is home currently home to 21,000 companies employing 220,000 people, with the citys GDP estimated to be $121.1bn (£78.5bn). The city was given a boost when banking giant HSBC announced in March that it would move its ring-fenced banking operation from London to Birmingham, including the relocation of 1,000 staff.
