A stray cow attacked and seriously injured a man in Surat on Friday, May 5. Bike-borne diamond polisher Dinesh Prajapati was returning home from work when he was attacked by the animal.
Prajapati is said to have lost control of his vehicle when the cow suddenly appeared before him. The cow then went berserk and attacked the 38-year-old.
A video of the incident has emerged online where the cow is seen violently attacking him. In a bid to save Prajapati, a mob is seen pelting stones at the cow, but all efforts to chase the cow away are in vain as the cow is seen charging at them as well.
"The cow first attacked his motorcycle and the youth fell on the ground. It started hitting him with its horns. The youth was lucky that he skidded towards the big wall in the society and the cow had got tired of hitting him with horns. The man remained at the wall for a long time, when we pelted stones and attacked the cow with sticks," the Times of India quoted a source.
Some people are also seen trying to chase the cow away with sticks, while another resident of the area is seen pouring water on the cow. However, it refused to relent.
"No one dared to go near the cow as she was very angry. The residents living on the upper floors of the society threw water on the animal. Suddenly, it moved forward to attack another person standing nearby, but he got away from the spot in time," the source added.
Meanwhile, another resident of the area told TOI that they have been facing cow menace for a while now and have even spoken to the police about it, but no action has been taken.
