Hundreds of Class 12 students of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) gathered outside the council office on Wednesday, May 31, to protest against the unsatisfactory results this year.
BSEB Bihar board class 12 results to be declared today; here's how you can check your marks online
BSEB has declared the Class 12 results on Tuesday and 64 percent of students failed the examinations.
A few of the agitated students who had gathered outside the council office also tried to climb the main gate, but were prevented by police. The protest gathered momentum after hundreds of youth workers of Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav joined the students.
Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and All India Students Federation also sat on dharna at Kargil Chowk in support of the examinees.
When the students took to stone-pelting at the council office, police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the crowd. A few students were also detained for getting violent.
What were the results this year
Even Khushboo Kumari, the state topper of the science stream, protested saying that she did not get a deserving score. Khushboo has scored 86.2 percent as opposed to her expectation of 95 percent.
While only 30.11 percent of students passed the test in the science stream, a meagre 37 percent students from the arts stream could clear their papers. However, the pass percentage in the commerce stream was 73.76.
The students have complained that the unsatisfactory results will hamper their chances of admission in the JEE Mains.
Interestingly, Bihar, which was embroiled in the toppers scam last year, has buckled up its stance to discourage students from cheating.
"The intention of the state government is to conduct cheating-free exam. We want that merit should come ahead. We just cannot pass undeserving students," said Bihar Education Minister Ashok Choudhary while appealing to the students to stop indulging in violence.
Choudhary also added that he would talk to the officials for holding compartmental examination soon so that the affected students' academic year do not go waste.
Last year, Bihar's education board was tarnished after arts topper Ruby Rai in a TV interview described political science as "prodigal science" and said that it was related to cooking. She had topped the arts stream, while all she did was write names of Bollywood movies in her paper.
