A police officer was killed by a group of villagers in Vaishali district of Bihar on Wednesday.
Ajit Kumar was lynched to death even as the police were trying to abate the clash between two groups in Lalganj area on 18 November.
The clash occurred when the mob set the house of an auto rickshaw driver on fire after two people were killed in a road accident on Tuesday.
Though the police repeatedly fired in the air to disperse the villagers, the mob chased them away by pelting stones.
Ajit Kumar, who was caught by the mob, was beaten up mercilessly. He was rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital, where he breathed his last, the police said.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has sought action against the killers of Ajit Kumar.
