In a tragic incident, three children were killed in a fire that broke out in hutments in Bihar's Khagaria district on Sunday night.
The fire broke out in the kitchen of one of the huts and soon spread to others gutting over 1000 huts, said Circle Officer Pradeep Sinha.
The children who were killed in the mishap were identified as Anchal Kumari (3), Manisha Kumari (3) and Jitan Kumar (7).
The police arrived at the spot and initiated a probe to find out the cause of the fire. They are also assessing the damage caused by the fire to pay compensation to the affected families.
Recently, a series of fire mishaps were reported in various districts including Patna, West Champaran and Munger in the past few days. Similar incidents were also reported from Begusarai, Munger, Araria and Siwan districts.
According to reports, at least 25 people were charred to death and numerous others injured in different incidents across Bihar on Friday.
"We have received information that different fire incidents claimed the lives of 25 people. Five people each were killed in Patna and Samastipur, there were four deaths in a fire in Bettiah, three lives each were lost in Vaishali and Rohtas, two in Bagha and one each in Buxar, Nawada and Bhojpur," a police official said on Saturday.
Around 1,058 fire incidents were reported in Bihar, in which 67 people were killed in 2012 alone. In 2011, 3,724 fire incidents took place and 94 lives were lost. In 2010, there were 4,479 fire incidents and 129 people lost their lives, reported IANS.
