The Renegades have lost three of their last five matches in this season's BBL and really need a victory against the winless Thunder at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
Melbourne will have the services of Dwayne Bravo to bank upon for the final two games of the Big Bash League, but the Renegades will have to make do without the West Indies all-rounder for Tuesday's match against Thunder.
"Dwayne is one of the best T20 all-rounders in the world. He can bat at the top and bowls anywhere," Renegades coach Simon Helmot was quoted as saying by the club's official website. "He's experienced and we look forward to welcoming him to the club."
Bravo will provide cover for England wicketkeeper/batsman Joss Butler, but having lost their last match to the Melbourne Stars, a heavy nine-wicket defeat, the Renegades will be keen to continue Thunder's misery.
Sydney were awful in their previous match at the Hobart Hurricanes, going down by a massive 73 runs after being bowled out for 94 for their 19th consecutive loss.
Skipper Michael Hussey is desperate to ensure the Thunder don't end BBL 03 without a single victory.
Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan returns from injury, with fast bowler Luke Feldman also set to be available.
The Renegades are thinking about playing leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed against the Thunder, owing to the slow nature of the drop-in pitches, with skipper Aaron Finch and James Pattinson also made available by Australia.
"You always want to have your captain back," Renegades and Sri Lankan legend Muthiah Muralitharan said of Finch. "He's our best player."
