Ever since the season seven finale of "The Big Bang Theory," speculations have been rife on what the future entails for Sheldon Cooper, who was last seen getting on a train heading out of Pasadena.
While some believed that Sheldon did not continue with the journey, and that he returned home soon after, TVLine has now confirmed that Sheldon did in fact go on an epic journey.
"For those curious about Sheldon's whereabouts all summer, I can confirm that he did, in fact, get on that train (vs. just squatting in the station, as some have speculated)," Michael Ausiello wrote in his Ask Ausiello column. "The bigger question you should be asking yourself is whether he ever stepped foot outside the train during his epic journey."
The last few episodes of season seven showed Sheldon going through some tough times. And, Leonard and Penny's decision to announce their engagement and intention to live together couldn't have come at a worse time, as Sheldon had just learned that he wouldn't be allowed to change his field of study.
As soon as Sheldon realises that he'll be homeless, he goes to Amy for some solace, and to make matters worse, she suggests them living together, an arrangement that Sheldon is not prepared for.
Meanwhile, the other characters on the show will continue to evolve, and viewers will see them dealing with a lot more hurdles and complications.
For instance, Penny will give up her dream of becoming an actress, and start work as a sales executive. Penny is going to thrive on the job, and this is expected to bring complications in her relationship with Leonard.
"Penny has an interesting arc this year where she puts acting down," co-creator and executive producer of the show, Chuck Lorre, told the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. "She gets a shot to be a pharmaceutical rep at Bernadette's company," he said, according to The Inquistr.
"She's going to start making some money, which will unbalance their relationship as the power shifts," he continued. "She's going to find some confidence and self-esteem, which acting does not provide in great heaping doses."
Raj's girlfriend Emily will return in season eight, and viewers will get to see more of their love story in the upcoming season. As for Bernadette and Howards, rumour mills indicate that they will be trying for a baby, and Amy is going to get further in her relationship with Sheldon.
"I don't know that we're headed for the bedroom or the altar any time soon," Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, said in a previous interview about his character's relationship with Amy. "But, whatever … the writers have been so good with the pace of it, just bring more is all I would say."
