The season 9 premiere episode of "The Big Bang Theory" will address the issue between Amy and Sheldon, who called it quits on their relationship in the previous season.

As fans of the sitcom know, season 8 ended with Amy taking a step back and re-evaluate her relationship with her boyfriend of five years, as she wasn't happy with the pace at which they were going. But Sheldon isn't going to let go easily, and he is expected to reason with her to get back with him.

"Right now, she really wants to take a step back and think about where she is, where they are and how she wants to move forward in her life," executive producer Steve Molaro told Entertainment Weekly. "I don't think she's necessarily in a rush to find another man, but I don't think she's ruling it out either."

The premiere episode will also address the mystery behind the ring that Sheldon was holding at the end of season 8. According to actress Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, fans shouldn't jump to the conclusion that Sheldon was about to propose before Amy decided to walk away from their romance.

"We don't really know what the story is with that ring," Bialik told The Los Angeles Times. "We don't know if it was something he got from his mother. We don't know what the process was by which he acquired that and what he would think to do with it."

Bialik recently opened up about the upcoming season, saying the season opener is a funny episode with a lot of one-on-one funny scenes with Stuart.

"It's a very funny episode. It doesn't tie everything up in a neat package; our show rarely does that. It's a lot of group scenes, and some really good one-on-one scenes as well. Kevin Sussman ("Stuart") is back with some lines that are making me crack up in rehearsal already. It's a great season opener," she wrote in Kveller.com.

Season 9 will see a short time-jump that will have Leonard and Penny in Las Vegas. Spoilers doing the rounds indicate that the duo will make it to the chapel, but it is not immediately known if they will get hitched.

"The Big Bang Theory" returns to CBS on 21 September.
