Season 8 of "The Big Bang Theory" had a cliffhanger ending that saw Leonard and Penny on their way to Las Vegas to get hitched.
But things between them got complicated a short while into the journey when Leonard confessed about kissing another woman during an expedition to the North Sea. Although Penny seemed cool about Leonard's minor indiscretion, there are chances their wedding might not take place.
According to a new TVLine spoiler, the duo certainly gets "close to tying the knot," as the CBS comedy is currently said to be looking for a male actor to play the minister in the upcoming season.
This means, Leonard and Penny will make it to the chapel for their wedding when the season picks up a few hours after the events of the season 8 finale.
"We pick up a few hours after the Season 8 finale," executive producer Steve Molaro revealed to the media outlet at Comic-Con:. "Leonard and Penny were headed to Vegas, and we're going to catch up with them right there."
The season premiere will also reveal the story behind the ring Sheldon bought for Amy. Just after Amy broke up with Sheldon because she wanted to re-evaluate their relationship, Sheldon surprised "The Big Bang Theory" viewers when he took out a ring and wondered what he was supposed to do with the jewellery, now that Amy was no longer in his life.
At Comic-Con, Molaro declined to comment on the ring as well as whether Sheldon was planning to propose. But he did reveal that the answers to both these questions will be revealed in the premiere episode of season 9.
Amy's primary concern is to move forward in life, revealed Molaro to Entertainment Weekly.
"Right now, [Amy] really wants to take a step back and think about where she is, where they are and how she wants to move forward in her life. I don't think she's necessarily in a rush to find another man, but I don't think she's ruling it out either."
"The Big Bang Theory" will return to CBS on 21 September.
