Sheldon (Jim Parsons) will be under tremendous pressure to take his relationship with Amy (Mayim Bialik) to the next level in the upcoming episode of "The Big Bang Theory" titled "The Prom Equivalency."
As the title suggests, the central theme of the episode will be prom, where the gang will get a second chance at one of the most important functions of a typical teenager's high school senior year.
The girls hatch a plan to recreate the prom on the roof of the guys' apartment building as not everyone has fond memories of their high school prom night. While Amy and Bernadette had miserable prom experiences, the boys didn't even go to their proms as they didn't get dates. The only one who had an enjoyable time was Penny, and the rest of the gang are quick to judge her.
"What kind of teenager did you think I was?" Penny asks in the teaser trailer for the episode.
"Easy," replies Bernadette.
"Slutty?" Amy says.
"The word is 'popular.'" Penny replies.
With prom comes certain kind of expectations, and the promo shows that Sheldon is indeed feeling the pressure to up the ante in the romance department. Showrunner Steve Molaro revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the episode will be a step forward in the Amy-Sheldon relationship.
"Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is feeling the pressures of losing his virginity on prom night, which is a thing that some people end up doing. I don't want to give too much away but I will say that a major move forward in the Sheldon-Amy relationship occurs," Molaro said.
Ever since Sheldon and Amy kissed in the Valentine's special episode in February, fans have been wondering if the two will ever consummate their relationship. As fans of the sitcom would know, Sheldon has been not been in a rush to take their relationship to the next level. But the same cannot be said for Amy, who has on more than one occasion expressed her frustration with the slow pace of their relationship.
And going by what Molaro said, Thursday's episode is going to change that.
The promo shows Sheldon gulping when he sees Amy in her prom dress, and based on the chatter on social networking platforms, the Shamy fandom are eager to find out if the pair will finally get intimate.
The episode will air on 6 November at 8 p.m. on CBS, and the official synopsis reads: "When the gang recreates a high school prom on the roof of the guys' apartment building, Sheldon feels pressure to participate in all the typical romantic traditions."
