"The Big Bang Theory" could be ending after Season 10, according to actor Kunal Nayyar, who plays Raj, and showrunner Steve Molaro.
"Look, next season, as it stands on our contract, could be the last season of Big Bang Theory," Nayyar recently said at the MCM London Comic Con, ET reported. "To be completely honest … I know people are going to want to know what happens after season 10. I don't know what's going to happen," he continued.
"The Big Bang Theory" is television's highest-rated comedy and Nayyar's comments echoed Molaro's, who also noted last year that viewers would possibly have to say goodbye to Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Amy, Raj, Howard and Bernadette after Season 10. "The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point," Molaro told the Hollywood Reporter. "The real answer is, I don't know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can."
So what's in store for the central characters next season, which could possibly be the series finale? Howard and Bernadette, who are expecting their first child together, might have welcomed a baby by the time the series wraps up. Amy and Sheldon, whose relationship has been progressing at a snail's pace, could very well be heading for marriage. As for Leonard and Penny, the couple took a big step in their relationship by getting married the previous season. Expanding their family is the next logical step.
Season 10 will also deal with the cliffhanger from the Season 9 finale, which saw Leonard's dad and Sheldon's mom going to their hotel for a nightcap. "I don't know what happened. I know they were getting along quite well, and left to go to the same hotel for a nightcap, and turned off their phones," the showrunner told Entertainment Weekly. "The details of exactly what happened, if we even ever find out all the details, will be left for the season premiere of season 10."
"The Big Bang Theory" will return to CBS this fall.
