Several parts of India are likely to come to a standstill as trade unions have called a 12-hour Bharat bandh on Sept. 2, 2016. The nationwide strike will be observed on Friday that will force most of the offices, business establishments and other institutions to shut down.

Although the Bharat bandh may cause massive financial losses across the nation, certain sections of commoners have welcomed the strike with open arms. The nationwide bandh on Friday will be followed by Saturday and Sunday, and then Ganesh Chaturthi 2016 falls on Monday.

The Bharat Bandh on Friday has enabled the commoners to enjoy a four-day long weekend, Monday being a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi. While there are some people who may not have Sept. 2 as a holiday as not all work places may be closed, most of the public and private sector establishments have declared Friday as a holiday.

The strike has jointly been called by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), seeking higher minimum wage, among other demands. Although it is a nation-wide bandh, reports suggest that Karnataka, Mumbai, Delhi, West Bengal and some other places are likely to be affected most. Public transport will be halted, but private vehicles may be allowed to ply.

Meanwhile, people on Twitter have been talking about the Friday bandh. While some have been condemning the bandh culture, some others have been celebrating the fact that it will lead to a four-day long weekend. Check some of the tweets here:
