As the Bharat Bandh call by trade unions on Wednesday hit services in many cities and towns across the country, citizens vented against the strike on social media.
Cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru were hit as banking and transport services were affected.
Autorickshaws and taxis stayed off the roads in several cities, while clashes were also reported in some areas.
Commuters faced difficulties in getting to work, and many had to shell out extra money for the fares.
Netizens criticised the Bharat Bandh on Twitter and Facebook, for not only inconveniencing citizens but also causing financial losses to the country.
However, there were also many who supported the bandh and spoke in favour of the labour unions.
Many Mumbaiites said on Twitter that the bandh has not significantly affected their routines. In Chennai too, services seemed to be running as usual.
Here are some reactions -
Those opposed to labour movements can give away their 5 days workweek, 8 hrs shift, paid leaves & switch to slavery. I support Bharat Bandh!

Not again! I strongly condemn this Bharat Bandh. As usual, properties would be destroyed and set ablaze. Common man would be left suffering. — Shruti (@Yuvian97) September 2, 2015
The Nation must be placed above politics. Do you have any idea that how much economic loss India will face in just one day of Bharat Bandh??
