One of the key accused in Bhanwari Devi murder case, Ashok Bishnoi, surrendered before police in Jodhpur's Jaloda village on Tuesday.
Bishnoi has reportedly disposed off Bhanwari Devi's body.
According to sources, the police will hand him over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Bishnoi is a member of Bishna Ram gang that was allegedly involved in disposing off the body of the 36-year-old nurse.
Earlier, the CBI had filed the status report on its investigation in the Bhanwari Devi case in the Jodhpur bench of Rajasthan High Court and claimed that the missing midwife nurse was 'killed'. The probe agency formally announced Bhanwari's death to the court nearly four months after she went missing.
The CBI had claimed a breakthrough in the case after they recovered remains of the nurse's body and other items that belonged to her from the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Canal near Jaloda village in Jodhpur.
Bhawari's son Sahil told that some of the items recovered from the canal belonged to her mother.
The police divers had recovered a wrist watch, a toe ring, a pendant, a broken chain, pieces of burnt bones and a tooth from the canal.
The CBI team that was investigating the case said that all the recovered items belong to Bhanwari Devi who was reportedly burnt there and thrown into the canal.
The divers had also recovered the bat which was allegedly used by hired killers to smash the head of missing nurse.
Earlier, a team of investigative personnel from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) had arrived in Jodhpur to examine the spot where the body of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi was disposed of. The team, headed by deputy director rank official visited the Jaloda village where Bhawari was supposed to have been burnt in a crater.
The probe agency had arrested Kailash Jakhar who allegedly dumped Bhanwari Devi's body. He was arrested on Jan 3 night in a truck on the Jodhpur-Ajmer highway.
The Bhanwari Devi case created a turbulence in Rajasthan's political paradigm.
The Jodhpur Police in Sept had registered a case of rape, murder and criminal conspiracy against former Congress minister Mahipal Maderna in the case of the missing Dalit nurse.
The case was filed after a Bilara trial court directed Rajasthan Police to probe alleged role of Maderna in the case.
Minister Maderna allegedly had an affair with Bhanwari Devi as CDs that were recovered by CBI showed the minister and Bhanwari Devi in a compromising position.
Congress Members of Legislature (MLA) Malkhan Singh Bishnoi was also seen in a compromising position with Bhanwari Devi in the CD along with Maderna.
Mahipal Maderna was dropped from the Ashok Gehlot cabinet on Oct 16.
