AT&T just announced the launch of its DirecTV Now internet TV streaming service, which goes live on November 30. The new service, which competes directly with Sony PlayStation Vue and Dish Sling TV, will bring a host of entertainment content with different programme packages starting at $35 a month.
DirecTV Now will use the home broadband or mobile wireless service to stream content on smartphones, tablets and TVs, disconnecting viewers from the traditional set-top-boxes, satellite dishes, and even annual contracts and necessary credit checks. If you are an AT&T subscriber, streaming from the service will not eat into the wireless data plans, which has attracted the attention of FCC.
"We're extending our entertainment portfolio for those who value premium content but also want more TV freedom suited for their lifestyle, whether watching at home or on their mobile devices. This is TV your way," John Stankey, CEO of AT&T Entertainment Group, said in a statement. "Our new customer-centric offers show that mobility and entertainment are better together," added Stankey.
AT&T DirecTV Now comes in different packages that consumers can choose from. The four packages, namely "Live a Little", "Just Right", "Go Big" and "Gotta Have It", are priced at $35, $50, $60 and $70, respectively. In the same order, customers get 60+ channels in the base package and get all the way up till 120+ for the most expensive plan. You can also add HBO and Cinemax for an extra $5 a month.
