A woman has alleged that she was gang-raped for five hours by four men in the early hours the day earlier last month. A case in this regard has been registered with the Koramangala Police Station. The police, however, have clarified that this was a false registered by the woman, who was "mentally ill."
Bengaluru, which has so far been known to be mostly safe for women, had that reputation tarnished on New Year's Eve 2017, when reports came in of mass molestation of women near MG Road, in the heart of the city.
Local reports said the girl was from North India and had come to the city in search of employment. In her quest for a job, she was reportedly introduced to the four accused by a common friend. Three of them were even identified by the police as Rakesh, Rajappa and Narasimha.
The quartet promised the girl a job and lured her to a car, she had said in her complaint, adding that they took turns to rape her in the vehicle, as it did the rounds of Koramangala. She told the police her ordeal lasted for five hours, from midnight to the early hours of the day.
The police got the girl admitted to hospital for treatment. She was said to be in shock, and went into depression, they said.
However, their investigation revealed that this was a false case. ACP (Madiwala) AV Laxminarayana told IBTimes India: "The case is an old one. The girl was sick." He added that the guardians of the girl were subsequently informed, and they came and took her away.
