Bengaluru is the third most unsafe metro city to live in the country, according to data from the National Crime Records Bureau. However, the IT capital topped the list of cities with most cyber crime cases and dowry-related cases. Delhi, infamous as the rape capital of the country, continues to remain the most unsafe.
In 2015, a total of 35,576 FIRs were registered in Bengaluru, while 1.73 lakh incidents were reported in Delhi and 42,940 in Mumbai. As many as 23,990 FIRs were registered in Kolkata and 16,965 in Hyderabad.
The NCRB data shows that Chennai is the safest metro city as 13,422 cases were registered in the capital of Tamil Nadu.
As many as 188 murder, 112 rape and 777 abduction cases were reported in Bengaluru in 2015. Delhi had the highest murder cases at 464, while Patna had 232.
Delhi also reported 6,630 cases of abduction cases, while Mumbai had 1,583.
Bengaluru Police has attributed the rise in crime to better reporting system, according to the New Indian Express. They registered 1,041 cases of cyber crime and 714 dowry-related cases in 2015.
According to data, 54 dowry-related deaths were also reported in Bengaluru in 2015.
Delhi topped the list of metro cities with the maximum road accident related deaths at 1,339, while 784 people lost their lives in Bengaluru.
