Bengaluru police arrested a private school teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl on school campus on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Romeo. The 25-year-old from Manipur has been employed at the private school in Bengaluru as a physical education teacher for four years.
The incident came to light when the girl complained of pain after returning home. Her parents found bruises on her private parts and rushed her to St Johns hospital and later filed a complaint with Parapana Agrahara police.
"They rushed the child to St John's Hospital and later filed a complaint at Parapana Agrahara police station on Monday night. The girl recorded her statement after a lot of difficulty and confirmed the PT teacher had sexually assaulted her," a senior police officer told The Times of India.
The police recorded the girl's statement and based on the medical examination report arrested Romeo, a resident of Ejipura in Bengaluru. He has been sent to judicial custody.
The school had hired Romeo through an agency, which is accused of ignorance in verifyng his background and police records.
Bengaluru has repeatedly witnessed sexual harassment of girls within the school premises. The Karnataka Police had issued stricter guidelines for the safety of students at school after the IT capital was rocked by repeated incidents of sexual assaults on minor girls in school.
Several more cases came up this year despite increased security on the school campus. In the latest, a three-year-old girl was assaulted allegedly by a watchman, who was later arrested, The Times of India reported.
