Almost 50 GB of data containing child pornography was recovered from a flat belonging to an IAS officer, who is being investigated for corruption.
In August, the police raided an apartment belonging to a senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan near Tumkur road and recovered Rs 4.37 crore cash, 2.5 kg of gold and 34.7 carat diamonds. But the police was more shocked after they found a huge stash of child pornography on the computer alleged to belong to the IAS officer.
The Lokayukta police allegedly found over 50 GB of child porn from the computer belonging to the top bureaucrat, according to Deccan Chronicle.
The hard drives and CDs seized from the IAS officer's flat were transferred to the Bengaluru Police on Thursday (5 October), who will now start a separate investigation into the matter, said reports.
Senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan, currently the Principal Secretary, Youth Empowerment and Sports, and his wife Ruchi Saxena are being investigated in a disproportionate assets case registered under Sections 13 (1) (e) and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In recent months, the police have also conducted raids on properties owned by Kapil in New Delhi and Chandigarh.
The new twist in the case is bound to make matters worse for the 1987-batch IAS officer from Karnataka.
However, Mohan told Bangalore Mirror that he was being targeted by somebody who wants to ruin his career. "It started with the CID raid, the I-T investigation, Lokayukta probe. Now they have come up with a new version."
Despite the police claiming they have enough evidence to prove the apartment belongs to the IAS officer, Mohan has insisted the flat does not belong to him.
Child pornography is a punishable offence under Section 67 (B) of the Information Technology Act. As per the Act, it is illegal to not only create and transmit child pornography in any electronic form but even to browse it.
