Bengaluru FC (BFC) have won two I-League titles in three years as well as one Federation Cup. Can they now become the first Indian football side to win the coveted AFC Cup? That remains to be seen, but first, on Wednesday, the Sunil Chhetri-led side have to make sure that they reach the final by recording a win against defending champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) at Bengaluru's Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The Indian football side now needs either a win or a clean sheet to continue making history.
"Johor are the champions of this competition. They are still favourites for me but it is a nice opportunity for us and Indian football," said Bengaluru FC coach Albert Roca in the pre-match press conference.
"It's going to be a tough mission but we are ready for it. We have shown that we are a competitive team and we have to do the same," he added.
The good news for the home side is that none of the top players are injured or suspended, unlike JDT, who have a major worry as the likes of Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Juan Martin Lucero and Yahyah Amri are suspended after picking yellow cards in their previous fixture.
Schedule
AFC Cup 2016 semi-finals: Bengaluru FC vs Johor Darul Takzim is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm IST (9 pm HKT) on October 19.
