A brave police officer who chased and confronted two burglars was stabbed to death on Friday afternoon at Nelamangala town.
Jagadish, a 34-year-old police sub-inspector at the Doddaballapur Police Station, along with two police constables, was chasing two robbers - a father-son duo identified as Raghu and Krishna, the Times of India reported.
After a hot pursuit, the police team cornered and overpowered the thieves, but in a bid to escape, they attacked SI Jagadish and constable Venkatamurthy with a lethal weapon and fled the spot on a motorcycle, according to The Hindu.
Jagadish died on the spot. The condition of the injured constable is said to be stable.
A 2009 batch officer, Jagadish was part of the crime unit in Doddaballapur Police Station. He is survived by his wife and parents.
Several senior officers from Bengaluru visited the crime spot. Police have launched a massive manhunt for the killers.
A special team has been formed to expedite the matter.
