A 52-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Banashankari area of South Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The accused, Lakshman, was arrested from Ramanagara town, where he was hiding.
The incident took place on Friday evening when the girl was alone at her relatives' home in Chennammanakere Achukattu area in Banashankari. Lakshman, an auto-rickshaw driver, was drunk when he sexually assaulted her, according to India Today report.
According to the report, Lakshman's family requested the family of the victim to not take the matter to the police and even offered a compensation. But, the minor's family filed a case against him.
The medical examination of the girl confirmed she was raped.
A similar incident took place on Wednesday in Kodigehalli, a suburb of Bangalore. A 45-year-old man sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl in Tavarakere police limits, The Times of India reported.
Puttaraja, who had fled to Kollegal after committing the crime, was arrested. The Tavarakere police registered a case against the man, identified as Puttaraja, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
"Doctors have confirmed sexual assault but are yet to carry out a medical test on the accused. We have registered a complaint and investigation is on," police said.
