Italian motorcycle brand Benelli is all set to add Tornado 302 in its India product portfolio in the festive season. The Tornado 302 is the fully faired sibling of TNT 300, which, the bike-maker's Indian subsidiary, DSK Benelli launched in March 2015.
"We plan to launch the Benelli Tornado 302 by Diwali. The model is already in homologation and its components are already cleared. However, we are still a month away before we secure all necessary certifications. We are planning to begin the retail sales of this model around October-November this year. The TNT 300 has been performing well in the market for us and, hence, it made sense to bring this model to our showrooms," Autocar Professional quoted Shirish Kulkarni, chairman, DSK Motowheels as saying.
Built on a trestle frame, the Tornado 302 is powered by an in-line two-cylinder four-stroke four-valve DOHC engine that develops 36bhp at 12,000rpm and 27Nm at 9,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission and the bike reportedly has a top speed of over 170kmph.
The motorcycle measures 2,175mm in length, 746mm in width, 1,146mm in height, and weighs 180kg. It features 41mm upside down forks at front and mono suspension in the rear. Tornado 302 also comes with a fuel tank capacity of 14-litre. It uses twin 260mm floating discs with a four-piston caliper brake at the front and a single 240mm disc with a single piston caliper brake for the rear.
The Tornado 302 will be assembled at the company's all-new Talegaon assembly. When launched, it will go up against Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Yamaha YZF-R3.
