All India Majilis-e-Illehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called upon people to reject outsiders contesting elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Owaisi also said: "Hyderabad is for Hyderabadis."
Owaisi was quoted by IANS as saying that the AIMIM will contest 70-75 seats of the total 150 seats in the GHMC.
On Thursday, the Member of Parliament addressed a meeting in Hyderabad and said he was confident of an AIMIM leader again becoming Hyderabad's mayor.
Majid Hussain of the AIMIM was mayor of Hyderabad for the last three years.
On Thursday, Owaisi reportedly took dig at the Congress' Telangana unit chief, Uttam Kumar Reddy, for his remarks against the AIMIM. He also launched a bitter attack on the Congress.
Terming Reddy as an outsider, Owaisi also attacked the Telugu Desam Party and did not leave a single chance to take a dig at the BJP.
However, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was spared by Owaisi. This led to speculations that the AIMIM could have an "electoral understanding" with the ruling party, said the IANS report.
