The ongoing battle between Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Lodha committee was set for a huge day as the Supreme Court was supposed to pronounce a verdict on the matter. But the decision has been deferred until December 9, leading to another painful wait.
The BCCI had been asked by the Lodha Committee to follow a set of recommendations, but the cash-rich board has not implemented all of them for various reasons. Some of the recommendations, which the BCCI have not agreed upon, are one-state one-vote and age limit of 70 years among others. The bigger points in the clean-up process were not followed.
With the BCCI not keen on following these recommendations, the panel has passed a few reports on the same. The panel stated that the BCCI members, who do not meet the Lodha Committee's eligibility criteria, should be disqualified from office. They also asked for the appointment of former Union home secretary GK Pillai as "observer."
Earlier the situation had also come to such that the panel asked the BCCI to stop disbursing money to the member units as well. The BCCI members are also not happy with the major recommendations set by the committee and the cricket board need 3/4th majority from the member associations to implement the reforms.
The Lodha Committee came forward with all these recommendations for the betterment of India cricket and also wanted the BCCI to be more transparent in their functioning.
