The Committee of Administrators, a body appointed by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), has given a green signal to a proposed hike in the remuneration offered to the selectors by Rs 30 lakh. Also, the chief selector's salary will see an increase by Rs 20 lakh.
As per the new structure, the members of the selection committee will now receive Rs 90 lakh per annum (from Rs 60 lakh per annum), while chief selector will be paid Rs 1 crore (from Rs 80 lakh per annum).
Also, the salaries of the members of the junior selection committee will be increased to Rs 60 lakhs per annum, and the chairman of the panel will be entitled to get Rs 65 lakh per annum. There has been a bump in the remuneration of the women's selection committee and the members will now get Rs 25 lakh per annum and the chief selector will draw Rs 30 lakhs.
Major boost for management
According to the minutes of meeting of the CoA: "The CoA was informed that before the above increase could be communicated to the selectors, some of them had approached the acting secretary (Amitabh Choudhary), seeking an increase in their remuneration.
"In view thereof, the acting secretary had asked Saba Karim (general manager of cricket operations at BCCI) for a comparative analysis of the increase in the remuneration fee of team India's support staff and Rahul Dravid (India A coach) since FY 2014-15. After going through the same, the acting secretary had recommended a further increase of approximately 70%."
The senior selection committee consists of Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh with MSK Prasad being the chairman. Two other members in Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe were removed as selectors last year as per the Lodha reforms which mandated selectors being former Test cricketers.
This is the second wave of instalments rolled out by the CoA after former CAG chief Vinod Rai and former India women's captain Diana Edulji had doubled the fees of all BCCI umpires, curators, scorers, and video analysts. Also, there has been an extension in the contracts of all international and domestic cricketers.
