Baywatch movie has failed to impress critics, but the lead star Dwayne Johnson is least affected by the critics' negative reviews. According to Dwayne, fans have loved the movie and that is what he wants at the end of the day.
Dwayne took to Twitter to talk about the negative reviews his R-Rated comedy-drama Baywatch received prior to the release. In a series of tweets, Dwayne quoted a few reviews and said fans loved the movie and it shows the glaring disconnect between fans and critics.
"Yay positive upticks... Fans LOVE the movie. Critics HATE it. What a glaring disconnect. People just want to laugh & have fun. #Baywatch," he tweeted.
"Bold move from this critic who watched #Baywatch w/ other critics who laughed their ass off, but then they decide to trash it publicly," he said in another tweet.
"Oh boy, critics had their venom & knives ready. Fans LOVE the movie. Huge positive scores. Big disconnect w/ critics & people. #Baywatch," he tweeted.
Baywatch, an official adaptation of the iconic TV series of 90s, was released in the US on May 25. The film features Dwayne, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra and Kelly Rohrbach in pivotal roles.
Helmed by Seth Gordon, the film earned $1.25 million from Wednesday night preview shows across 2,554 locations. The film, which is made on a budget of approximately $ 60 million, is expected to earn around $40 million from around 3,647 shows in its opening weekend.
Baywatch is facing a stiff competition at the box office from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which also opened to mixed response. Pirates of the Caribbean is the fifth film in the franchise, starring Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem and Orlando Bloom.
