Baywatch releases in the US on Friday, May 26, and while every star in the film looks absolutely stunning, film critics weren't all praise for the movie. The Dwayne Johnson – Zac Efron starrer R-Rated movie has not received good reviews.
Set aside the movie review, a few critics are disappointed with Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra, who dons the role of the villain in Baywatch, as she hasn't garnered positive reviews either. The Bollywood star-turned-Hollywood actress was chosen for the role following her outstanding acting in Quantico. But it looks like the diva hasn't impressed film reviewers. Did PC take a haste decision and signed a wrong movie for her Hollywood debut?

With the movie getting only 18 percent review on Rotten Tomatoes, the film's villain seems to have been brought on board to accompany other Baywatch women in showing off some cleavage in tight dresses, wrote Washington Post's critic. "It's no shock that the women in Baywatch don't have much to do beyond look good. Even Chopra, as the villain, has minimal dialogue, although the camera spends plenty of time giving her elevator eyes while she dons form-fitting, cleavage-baring dresses," Stephanie Merry writes.
Many international critics are disappointed that the stunning diva did not have much screen time to show her full potential.
Collider's Matt Goldberg emphasises that the actress does stand out, but she should have been given more screen space to challenge the boys. "The real standout is Chopra. I've never seen her TV series Quantico, but she owns the film every second she's on screen. Victoria isn't a particularly memorable villain on the page, but Chopra is commanding, and when she gets called an aspiring Bond villain, it made me want her to be the villain in the next Bond movie," Matt wrote.
Agreeing with Collider's review, Jack Shephard of Independent shares, "Despite being incredibly talented, Chopra is clinically under-used, the script offering her nothing to work with."
These reviews hint that Chopra could have chosen a better movie for a Hollywood debut. But that being said, it is also important to note that this is just the beginning of her English film career. When she began her career in the Hindi industry, she was given all kinds of roles – right from a vamp in Aitraaz to playing the girl next door in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
She has done worst movies, a few of which she was even seen cringing at during Watch What Happens Live. It was not until Fashion, Barfi, Mart Kom, Agneepath and Don fell into her kitty that she rose to the occasion and proved Indian critics wrong. So give the actress some time.
She has proved she is talented in Quantico and with Chopra already signed another Hollywood venture, the 34-year-old has miles to go and shatter a number of glass ceilings. Who knows, she could be repeating her Bollywood history in Hollywood. Or better, she might be heading towards conquering the industry without repeating her past mistakes.
You go girl! Baywatch releases on May 26 in the US and June 2 in India.
