Battlefield 4 gets a new Netcode patch for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles will get the update later this week. The patch will improve the performance of FPS title's multiplayer on all the platforms.
In a post in its Battlelog page, developer DICE, have said that this update for the first time was done using the CTE (Community Test Environment) on PC and gameplay feedback was used for deployment.
High Frequency Network Update
Nicknamed as the 'High Frequency Bubble,' the patch will work on updating the server more frequently than before making it smoother and 'correct' player experience. Players will have to note that this patch will be set on 'OFF' by default. This setting must be enabled if player have to make use of the improved networking. It was also noted that the patch will enable game to support three different levels: LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH. And if issues pop up, then players are advised to "lower or turn off" the setting completely.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Server Performance
All the 48 player servers and 64 player server will get the High Frequency update. The developer has said that it will be keeping an eye on the performance of larger servers so that players do not face any issues with the server performance.
PC Server Performance
When it comes to PC's, it is the RSPs who will be responsible for enabling the feature and those features can be used at their discretion.
Video Comparison
DICE also said that it is using a "60fps video camera to capture two clients connected over the Internet and counting frames to get before and after results" in order to have a measureable end-user experience.
Future Plans
It was also brought to notice that this was the first of the CTE- tested 'Netcode' fixes and improvements and it will be working on additional tweaks that was not part of the patch.
