Ben Affleck has faced major criticism for filling Christian Bale's shoes as the Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. This criticism was evident with the box office response of Batman v Superman movie and critics reviews.
Following the announcement of his solo venture as the Dark Knight in The Batman, there were rumours that Affleck may step down from the project after he let go of the directorial position. While these were rumours, a new statement from a Warner Bros producer seems to confirm that the actor was indeed doubtful about his return.
In a JoBlo article, veteran DCEU executive producer Charles Roven issued a statement that there is all likeliness that Affleck will return as the Cape Crusader in the solo movie.
"I'm not really involved with The Batman," he confirmed before adding: "We have a cursory involvement because that character is going to touch us some way. If Ben plays that character it's going to touch some part of what we are doing. But I have no feeling whatsoever except positive that Matt loves Ben and the work that he has done as Batman, and Ben thinks that Matt is a really terrific filmmaker. I have every expectation that they are going to make a movie together."
The statement indicates that things are not completely in place. While director Matt Reeves has been confirmed for the project, there is no official confirmation about Affleck's return as the DC superhero.
Following his withdrawal as the director and time spent in rehab, Affleck walking out of the project at this point wouldn't be surprising.
The filming of The Batman will not begin until 2018 due to unavailability of Reeves. The remaining cast of the DCEU movie is also yet to be confirmed. Fans will have to wait till the end of this year to watch how the film will pan out.
Until then, Affleck will be seen driving around in his batmobile in Justice League releasing on November 17.
