The production of "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" faced a delay of sorts so as to help set up "Justice League," which will hit screens sometime in 2017, according to a new report.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was delayed so that the story could be tweaked to help introduce some "Justice League" characters such as Cyborg, Flash and Green Lantern in the "Man of Steel" sequel.
"ustice League" will feature Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Ray Fisher will play Cyborg. The studio is yet to confirm the remaining members of the League, but both Matt Damon and Jason Momoa have been rumored for the role of Aquaman.
"Like Marvel's 'The Avengers,' there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie," Nikki Finke, who founded Deadline, quoted a source as saying.
"Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow.
"The studio didn't want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge."
"Justice League" will hit theaters just one year after "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and Finke wrote that she has intel on Warner Bros. and DC Comics movie roadmap, which they will be announcing next month at Comic-Con.
Besides "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" Warner Bros. has two other movies that will release in 2016. These include "Shazam" in July 2016 and "Sandman" in December.
Wonder Woman will get her first solo movie as Gadot recently revealed that she will be portraying the character in not one, but three films. The year 2017 will see the release of "Justice League (May)," "Wonder Woman" (July) and Flash and Green Lantern team-up in December.
"Man of Steel 2" is slated for a May 2018 release.
