Ben Affleck's future as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Batman standalone movie looks uncertain. The Batman movie director Matt Reeves recently talked about Affleck's involvement in the superhero movie and how his movie will connect with the other DC movies.
During the production of Justice League, there were several speculations that Jennifer Garner's ex-husband will reportedly write, direct and star in a stand-alone Batman film. Warner Bros. put an end to all the rumours when in February 2017, they announced that Cloverfield movie director Matt Reeves will helm the Batman project.
Earlier this month, it was announced by Forbes' Mark Hughes that in The Batman stand-alone film, Ben Affleck will be replaced by someone young. It was further claimed that the movie director is looking for a younger actor to become the new Caped Crusader. After the news surfaced, many started to wonder if Ben Affleck was done playing Batman.
That being said, director Reeves recently talked about Ben Affleck's involvement in the upcoming DC movie featuring Bruce Wayne. While speaking at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Reeves revealed that he is still conversing with the Argo movie actor about the project, though he wouldn't confirm at this moment whether or not the actor is onboard or not. Many are speculating the acclaimed director has some ideas that will include both Ben Affleck and a young actor to portray the saviour of Gotham.
"A lot of things have happened since then but the movie, and why I'm excited about it, is it continues to be the same inspirations and excitement of what we talked about in the beginning," Reeves added.
As of now, the writer-director is working on the Bruce Wayne's story arc but revealed they are planning a "noir-driven" Batman story where Bruce will be seen investigating a case that will bring him right into the centre of Gotham where the true corruption happens.
The upcoming Batman movie is not an origin movie, nor it will take place in the world where Christopher Nolan's Batman brought peace to Gotham. The pre-production of The Batman is still underway, and fans of Ben Affleck will soon get to know if he will get to play the Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves' film or Warner Bros. will hire someone new to play a billionaire businessman who becomes a superhero vigilante.
