Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz starring romantic comedy "Barfi" has topped the domestic box office collection in the first week of its release, affecting the business of previous releases like "Raaz 3" and "Ek Tha Tiger".
In its first week, the Anurag Basu-directed movie collected ₹586 million, which is more than Vikram Bhatt's horror movie "Raaz 3" which collected ₹552.5 million.
"Barfi" opened with positive responses from both critics and audiences. The movie was released in less than 700 cinema halls but earned ₹346 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend.
Barfi raked in ₹92 million on Friday, ₹115 million on Saturday, ₹139 million on Sunday, ₹65 million on Monday, ₹60 million on Tuesday, ₹72.5 million on Wednesday and approximately ₹42.5 million on Thursday, according to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.
During the weekdays the movie did quite well, but its business was affected on Thursday because of the nationwide bandh. "Barfi" has affected the business of both Salman Khan starrer "Ek Tha Tiger" and Emraan Hashmi's "Raaz 3".
"Raaz 3" in its second week collected ₹147.8 million taking the overall domestic box office collection to ₹700.7 million.
Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor's "Heroine" is said to affect the business of "Barfi".
Madhur Bhandarkar's directorial film opened with mixed reviews at the box office on Friday, but opened up with an average occupancy of about 60 percent across India, Koimoi.com reported.
"Heroine" has had a wider release with around 2,000 screens as compared to Barfi which opened to only 700 screens.
