Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi's Bank Chor, which opened in theatres on Friday, June 16, made a fair collection at the domestic box office on its opening day. Phullu, which clashed with Bank Chor, managed to collect an average amount on its first day.

Amid massive promotions across the country, Bank Chor was released in 700 screens in India. The film raked in Rs 1.40 crore at the Indian box office on its first day. "#BankChor Fri ₹ 1.40 cr. India biz," Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted. Although the movie witnessed a below average response in the morning shows, its business improved towards the evening.

Bank Chor received a mixed response from Bollywood critics as well as the audience. While many people didn't have great expectations from the film despite the fact that it was backed by Yash Raj Films, the story turned out to be surprisingly good. The positive word-of-mouth publicity is expected to bring in more numbers in the first weekend.

Made with a low budget of Rs 15 crore, director Bumpy's movie is expected to be a winner at the domestic box office, although it has just one week to enjoy a good run before Salman Khan's Tubelight hits theatres on June 23.

Bank Chor revolves around a goofy robber, Champak (Riteish), who plans a bank heist but lands in an awkward situation when he encounters the policeman Amjad Khan, portrayed by Vivek.

On the other hand, Phullu, starring Sharib Hashmi, did an average business of around Rs 1 crore (approximately) at the domestic box office on its first day. The film, which has a unique storyline, managed to impress viewers despite its flaws.

While it has the potential to draw more viewers in the first weekend, the fact that it clashes with Bank Chor at the box office may pose a threat to the film's overall collection. Yet, given its strong storyline, the movie is expected to make a decent lifetime collection.

Phullu, directed by Abhishek Saxena, aims at spreading social awareness about the stigma associated with menstruation. The film throws light on the importance of discussing the topic, especially in rural areas, which is still a taboo in the country.
